Facebook closes the tap of the data to the developers

The social network prohibits the use of private information to create monitoring tools

Facebook has prohibited developers from making use of social network data to create surveillance tools that compromise the privacy of users of the social network.

Specifically, the head of the Security Office of Facebook, Rob Sherman, explained on Monday that in recent months have taken action against those developers who have created and marketed with tools for surveillance, "violating our current policies."

"We want to make sure that everyone understands the underlying policy and how to comply with it," adds Sherman.

Social networks are an important source of information, since they allow people to react before emergency situations. However, the American Civil Liberties Union of California denounced in October a report that the police were using tools to monitor protesters on social networks in real time.

The report denounced the use made by the Baltimore Police of Geofeedia, a surveillance tool based on data from users from Facebook, Instagram and Twitter to intervene and detain people during the protests of April 2015, which claimed against the excessive use of force by the Police.
