False news triumphs over the truth

False news triumphs over the truth

The fake news is more shared than the corroborated according to the MIT

An army of 60 million accounts on Facebook and 48 million accounts on Twitter. These are the 'soldiers' of the fake news generators to replicate them in the most used social networks, according to the magazine 'Science'.

The study, conducted by MIT, highlights that false news travel through social networks in a "faster, farther, deeper and in a wider" than the real news.

According to the work, the so-called fake news tend to be shared more in these interaction platforms than the corroborated information and in the case of Twitter the falsehoods are shared 70% more than the truths.

Another of the most remarkable findings is that "the greatest dissemination of these statements lacking truthfulness does not fall on robot users, but rather it is the people who have the greatest echo of them".

This behavior of humans in social networks is not limited to some areas, since the trend is repeated "in all categories", although it is true that in some it occurs more than in others.

"It's a real problem and it's a problem that requires serious research to solve it," said Filippo Menczer, a professor at Indiana University and co-author of the paper, which calls for global action to combat falsehood.
